The Mendeley Reference Manager features the add-on Mendeley Cite for Microsoft® Word
Mendeley Cite is compatible with Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Word versions 2016 and above and with the Microsoft Word app for iPad®. If you are using an earlier version of Word, you can use the existing Mendeley Citation Plugin for Word available with Mendeley Desktop.
To use Mendeley Cite you'll need a free Mendeley Reference Manager account, available from www.mendeley.com.
Getting Started with Mendeley Cite
Mendeley Cite can:
- Cite without having Mendeley Desktop open or even installed, minimizing potential performance loss.
- Keep your document in view as you cite: Mendeley Cite opens as a separate panel in Word alongside your document window, not over it, so your whole document remains visible as you find, select and insert references.
Using Mendeley Cite to create reference list
After you have inserted one or more citations you can use Mendeley Cite to automatically create a bibliography of all the references you have cited. Position the cursor where you want the bibliography to appear in your document and go to the Mendeley Cite add-in window. Select the ellipsis button (3 dots), menu, and select 'Insert Bibliography'
Be sure to proofread all your citations!
Citation tools, such as Mendeley, are not fool proof. Errors in capitalization are common.
Selecting a citation style
Select from thousands of different citation styles. Search and select your preferred style to automatically update your references and bibliography.
