How do I do an APA citation of a web page or a document found on a website?
When all information for a web page or web document is present, the basic format is:
Lastname, F. M. (Year, Month Date). Title of page. Site name. URL
Missing Information:
- If the resource was written by a group or organization, use the name of the group/organization as the author. Additionally, if the author and site name are the same, omit the site name from the citation.
- If the page's author is not listed, start with the title instead.
- If the date of publication is not listed, use the abbreviation (n.d.).
Features of the APA style to keep in mind:
- When an Internet document is more than one Web page, provide a URL that links to the home page or entry page for the document.
- The title of document is always in italics.
- Within title of document, you may need to include the format of the source in brackets.
- For example [Audio podcast] or [Web log post]
