The APA citation for a curriculum vitae (cv) or resume will depend on the format and whether the document is retrievable.

  • If the document is available online and can be accessed by anyone, then cite it as a web document.
  • If the document cannot be accessed by others, then cite it as a personal communication and do not include it in your reference list.

Citing a web document

When all information for a web page or web document is present, the basic format is:

Last name, first initial. (Date online publication date, year plus month). Title. Retrieved from http://www.xxx.com.

Doe, J. (2016, May 5). Jane Doe Curriculum Vitae. Retrieved from http://www.usc.edu.

Citing personal communication

Include all “personal communications” as in-text citations. The citation will contain in parenthesis the person’s name, the phrase “personal communication” and the date.

(J. Doe, personal communication, May 5, 2016)

J. Doe outlines her experience as an editor in her curriculum vitae (personal communication, May 5, 2016).
